The Most Expensive AV Mistake (And How to Avoid It)

There’s a common assumption we see on a lot of projects, that audio-visual is where the budget blows out.

Big displays. Control systems. New technology.

It’s easy to look at AV and think,“that’s the expensive part.”

But in reality, most of the cost issues we come across don’t come from the equipment at all.

They come from when AV is considered too late in the process.

By the time questions start getting asked:

  • Where are displays going?
  • How will people hear clearly in the space?
  • What does this room actually need to do?

…construction is often already underway, and key decisions have already been made.

That’s when things start to unravel.

We’ve seen it happen plenty of times:

  • Walls opened back up to run cabling that wasn’t planned for
  • Infrastructure needing last-minute changes
  • Displays installed in positions that don’t actually work for the space

Suddenly, the AV looks “expensive”, when really, it just wasn’t planned for from the beginning.

The reality is, AV doesn’t have to be the costly part of a project.

But it does need to be part of the conversation early.

When it is, everything tends to run smoother. Budgets are clearer, infrastructure is right the first time, and the end result actually supports how people use the space.

At LifeLike Group, we approach AV as part of the bigger picture, working alongside design, construction and user needs right from the start.

Because in the end, it’s not about the technology.

It’s about how the space works.
